A gentleman's valet stand made by Fischel in interwar Czechoslovakia, one of the great Central European bentwood makers alongside Thonet. Steam-bent beech forms a shoulder-shaped jacket hanger above a trouser bar, set on a slatted base for shoes. Both original paper labels survive under the base: the Fischel label reading "Made in the Czechoslovak State" and the label of the Astra Bentwood Furniture Co., the New York importer.
